LOCAL CONCERT ALERT (The Danger Cats), New Videos, And More Assorted Notes!!

Before I head off to Haggith's last live concert at The Algonquin TONIGHT, we have a new news post for you guys, including assorted news and notes, new videos from some extreme Sault Ontario projects, and first, a LOCAL CONCERT ALERT for an upcoming concert at an unexpected venue, so here's what you need to know!

Fresh off of TONIGHT's set at Haggith's farewell show, local all-female hard rock quartet The Danger Cats will be at a venue you may not expect this coming Friday (the 13th), as they'll open for local folk/jazz rock quartet The Pesto Shirts at... LopLops Lounge?! The first hard rock featured concert at 651 Queen Street East that I can remember since C'Mon played there in June 2011, this isn't common territory for the SMS, but LopLops is a very successful venue (and very close to The Grand Theater), so hopefully the Friday the 13th placement doesn't lead to any bad occurences! The Pesto Shirts (the 3rd place band at The Rockstar Bar Battle of the Bands) were supposed to play a show with The Danger Cats at The Canadian last month, but I don't think that ever took place, so it'll be nice to see their talented sound back on the local stage on Friday! There is a $5 cover charge for this 19+ show, and there's an announced 10:00 PM start time. For more details, visit this link! It's nice to see the new-look Danger Cats back at it with more shows, so keep it in mind for Friday, and don't miss them at The Algonquin Pub TONIGHT!

Next up, here's some new videos, including even more footage from local noise/grunge duo Bad Back's opening set for Biipiigwan at The Moose Lodge last month! Uploaded by frontman Jamie Vincent's AlgomA bandmate Marty Chase to his YouTube channel yesterday, it's the longest video yet from the show, capturing their last 5 songs from Bad Back's set, including (in order) "Two Tongues", "Breeding Weak", "#1 Hit Single", "Party Bus", and "Oh (Nothin' In My Pocket)", so click each link to go straight to each song! Unlike the earlier videos from the Bad Back members' own channels, the angle here is to the central-right and not on a stationary camera, so we get a better and more active view of the proceedings! Bad Back made a lot of new fans at this concert, and this video shows more of that, so check it out below!

Also in new videos, the newly expanded local death.grund project Brutaly Fatal are the subject of a new video on Blood Shed Productions' YouTube channel! Uploaded on Wednesday, this is of Austin McCrae & Ringsnaps Gibson "playing some funky stuff" that differs from earlier material in that Austin (again on guitar) sings only clean vocals with no growling. There's more of a bouncy funk vibe compared to their usual material, but it's filmed like their earlier duo clip on the vertical cell phone camera angle. Interesting diversion, so give it a look below!

Finally for today, here's three assorted shorter stories from the last while, and as usual, these are in alphabetical order by artist name:

  • Strongs, Michigan solo metal project East Branch appear to have fell inactive, as their Facebook page (and only official online page) was deleted for unknown reasons in recent months. Led by Swampghas' J.R. Johnson, East Branch was last visibly active in July via a YouTube song upload, though it remains possible that they could be among label Werehold Records' planned Friday the 13th uploads in a few days. Hopefully J.R. revisits this project soon either way, as they were a solid slower metal band!
  • Caveman Morrison/Redundant bassist James White (a.k.a. Yimmy Blanco) is again looking to join a local band of any genre, as per his post on the Musicians Wanted Facebook group earlier today. He's a very skilled bassist that definitely isn't playing live as much as he has been, so message him above or at this link for more info!
  • Local goregrind duo Rotopsy have posted a new untitled instrumental track to their Reverbnation page (oddly before a YouTube version), and while it's fairly short, it has a low metal groove to it and a promising fullness, so give it a look above!

That's all for today, but I'll see you guys TONIGHT at The Algonquin for Haggith's last show, plus Sykotyk Rampage, The Danger Cats, and the official debuts of The Strange Coyotes and Project 421! Thanks everyone!
